What is a VIN?

Your car's own 17-character number, like an ID number for the car. No two cars share one, and it never changes, so it tells us exactly which parts fit.

  • 1st to 3rd: the maker and the country it was built in
  • 4th to 8th: the model, body and engine
  • 10th: the model year

Where do I find it?

  1. Bottom corner of the windscreen, on the driver's side. Look in from outside.
  2. Inside the driver's door frame, on the sticker you see when the door is open.
  3. Under the bonnet, stamped near the top of the engine bay.

It is also printed on your vehicle registration card and your insurance papers.
